Doug Federspiel - Mediation and Litigation Professional
An accomplished attorney, mediator, arbitrator, and former judge, Doug Federspiel has built a legal career engaging in litigation, general counsel work, judicial service, and alternative dispute resolution. Doug Federspiel owns Problem Solver Law, PLLC, a solo practice in Yakima, Washington, where he provides mediation, arbitration, contract work, litigation advice, general counsel services, and discovery master services. He has experience in commercial litigation, real estate law, insurance law, commercial contracts, financing, securities, human resources, and judicial decision-making.
Mr. Federspiel earned a BS in accounting from William O. Douglas Honors College, where he played on Central Washington University’s varsity golf team. He later earned a BA in political science from Whitman College, where he was a scholar-athlete and also played varsity golf. Mr. Federspiel then earned a JD from Willamette University College of Law. He advanced to the National Appellate Moot Court competition in New York and clerked for the Special Litigation Unit within the office of the Oregon State Attorney General in Salem, Oregon.
Mr. Federspiel began his legal career as a partner at Velikanje, Moore & Shore, Inc. P.S., where he worked in litigation for 17 years. He later served as general counsel for Wilkinson Corporation, then became a district court judge for Yakima County and eventually a superior court judge for Washington State. He has completed 40-hour basic mediation training through the Dispute Resolution Center of Yakima and Kittitas Counties, received recognition as pro bono lawyer of the year from the American Bar Association’s Family Law Division, and been invited to be a fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America.
